People

Different ways of thinking. One set of questions.

Experimentalists, theorists, engineers, and computational scientists work together to make biological histories observable and learn what they mean.

The people doing the work now

Sahand Hormoz

Principal Investigator

Sahand Hormoz

A quantitative systems biologist studying how biological history shapes future fate.

Sahand trained as both a theorist and an experimentalist. He earned his PhD in Applied Physics at Harvard University with Michael Brenner. He then studied biological systems as a theorist with Boris Shraiman at the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics at UC Santa Barbara and as an experimentalist with Michael Elowitz at Caltech.

Sahand is an Associate Professor of Systems Biology at Harvard University. He holds faculty appointments in the Department of Systems Biology at Harvard Medical School and the Department of Data Science at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. He is also an associate member of the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard and is affiliated with the Harvard Stem Cell Institute and Harvard Cancer Center. He trains graduate students through the Systems, Synthetic, and Quantitative Biology PhD Program and the Harvard Biophysics Graduate Program.
